Will my comment be appreciated, or hurt someone?” Your answer means the difference between being a good friend and being plain rude. Are you commenting on something that can be changed or controlled (like too much drinking or talking during meal), or are you pointing out a short coming that can’t be improved (like being handicap or being short)? If you’re truly trying to help someone, and you really do care about his or her feelings, think about how you would feel if you were told the same thing. Be kind and sensitive, and let your friends know you’re not picking on them or trying to hurt their feelings. And if you can’t find a way to get your point across gently, maybe you should keep it to yourself.
